The Nile and it's Ancient Past
Throughout thousands of years many civilizations have settled near water as a good source of food, water, and fertile soil. Although many people today live in Egypt and on the Nile not so many lived on the Nile thousands of years ago. The land that is close to the Nile was green, fertile, and lively. However, the area not close to the Nile was dry, desolate, and very harsh. Getting to the Nile from other areas of the world can be easy and difficult depending on what route you take. If you take the ocean route and down the Nile you will have an easier but longer journey. You will have food water and other resources. If you go straight to the Nile through the desert you will have a tough, rugged, hot, shorter journey. However, if you were to go through the desert you will have limited a food source and you will only receive water at the few of the rivers you will cross, if any. On the picture you see you will find that there are some small rivers that were not there long ago. These channels are shipping canals that were made by unnatural causes.
Every year the Nile would flood bringing water and silt for good fertilizer. This allowed the land to be fertile and made the land good for growing crops and other resourceful needs. One of the first successful civilizations to ever settle on the banks of the Nile was the ancient civilization of Egypt. What made Ancient Egypt such a successful civilization all came from the Nile? The river gave the people of Ancient Egypt almost every resource they could ask for. They had water, fertile, soil, crops, and papyrus which allowed them to write on a substance like paper. The Nile did not only give then resources needed to have a successful civilization but a way of trade as well as conquest.

Although the Nile provided the people with great resources, they found many troubles with it. Although the river goes through seasonal flooding sometimes the river would flash flood. They also found that there are many things in the river that could harm them. The river had diseases that the people were not immune to. Also many parts of the river had deadly wildlife. These include the Nile crocodile and the hippo. Both of these animals killed many people because of their territorial instincts.
The civilization had multiple cities spread out all along the Nile. This gave them the chance to trade with other cities by using the Nile. The people also used the Nile to transport cargo and to move themselves around. The people of Egypt also looked at the Nile as a gift from the gods. Certain gods were praised more because of what they resemble. The people of Ancient Egypt were very intelligent and resourceful, but their empire was separated due to war and conquest. The people of this wonderful civilization never took the Nile River for granted and this is what made them so successful.
